WIIS West is currently looking for interns to work with us. Our internship program challenges selected interns to have the courage to pioneer new ground, apply professional skills to exciting projects and build relationships that will become the foundation of support for future WIIS West members. This is a hands-on, rewarding experience where interns will gain exclusive exposure to senior-level professionals and leaders, emerging initiatives in the field of international security and  develop a wide-reaching network in the peace and security sectors. Academic credit can also be arranged.


  • Preferred background in one of the following fields:

Security Studies, Homeland Security, Peace Studies, International Affairs, Human Rights, Psychology, Social Psychology, International Business, Government, Marketing, Communications, or any related field(s)

  • Passion for “out of the box” thinking and problem solving

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality

  • High degree of comfort—or willingness to learn—digital and social media

  • Highly motivated self-starter

  • Possess an ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others

  • Well organized and able to function in a creative, sometimes chaotic environment

  • Good sense of humor and flexibility

  • Positive attitude and proven work ethic 

  • Fluency in other languages is a plus




As an intern, you will assist with the day-to-day operations of the WIIS West chapter. While we will do our best to match your responsibilities to your skills and interests, we are looking for individuals who can assist with one or more of the following tasks:

  • Research topics connected to the intersection of digital media, peacemaking, the arts, security, governance, and positive psychology

  • Maintenance of our online presence (twitter, FB, blog, website)

  • Contribute to the development of our quarterly newsletter

  • Contribute to the marketing and PR campaigns

  • Manage events calendar and logistics

  • Identify and develop relationships with affiliate organizations (public/private/and academic)

  • Help manage vendor relations
